A Toast to Bourbon, Beach Towns & Beautiful Journeys

There’s something timeless about a perfectly crafted Old Fashioned — a glass of rich, slow-sipping warmth that reveals something new with every swirl. For Marcus, it’s more than a cocktail — it’s a ritual. A signature. A small but significant pleasure that reflects his appreciation for craftsmanship, character, and care in the details.

🔥 Bourbon, The Marcus Way

Marcus’s bourbon collection tells a story: one of adventures, homecomings, and personal favorites that stand out for their smoothness and soul.

Some of his go-tos include:

  • Maker’s Mark – a classic, approachable pour with warmth and a soft finish.
  • Litchfield Distillery Vanilla Bourbon – a local gem from their home state of Connecticut, infused with delicate vanilla that plays beautifully in cocktails.
  • St. Augustine Distillery – a handcrafted Florida favorite with deep caramel and spice notes, discovered during a trip to Northeast Florida when shopping for Inns.

🍊 The Captain’s Reserve Old Fashioned Recipe

  • 2–3 dashes Angostura bitters

  • Orange peel, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a rocks glass, muddle sugar, orange slice, bitters, and the cherry.
  2. Add the large ice cube and pour in the Woodford Reserve.
  3. Stir gently to combine.
  4. Garnish with an orange peel, and savor every sip.

🌴 Bourbon & Beach Dreams: The Florida Connection

Before purchasing The Westbrook Inn, Meri and Marcus were captivated by the charm of Northeast Florida — especially St. Augustine, Fernandina Beach, and Amelia Island. These destinations still top their list for weekend escapes and inspiration.

They toured several beautiful historic inns during their search for a property, including:

They also cherish friendships in the innkeeping community — including the owners of The Addison on Amelia Island, a stunning property and proud member of Select Registry
