There’s something undeniably enchanting about the balance of heat and citrus — and no cocktail captures, this quite like The Captain’s Blood Orange Margarita. This bold, fiery twist on a classic is more than just a drink; it’s a story. A story of flavor and of romance — because for Meri and Marcus, it was the very first spark on their first date.

A Sip of Nostalgia

It was a warm summer evening, and Meri and Marcus met at a cozy local bar.  After they both ordered the same cocktail — a spicy blood orange margarita. One sip in, and the conversation flowed as freely as the citrus notes on their palates. That cocktail wasn’t just a drink — it became a memory, a shared flavor that marked the beginning of something extraordinary.

After years of perfecting their romance, and the drink, here’s the decidedly best recipe

🧭 The Captain’s Blood Orange Margarita

This recipe isn’t just bold — it’s anchored in excellence thanks to the unbeatable flavor of Teremana Tequila. Known for its smooth, crisp profile and hand-crafted small batch quality, Teremana shines when infused with habanero and paired with fresh citrus. It’s the only tequila we’d use for this drink — and once you try it, you’ll see why.

🔥 Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Teremana Blanco Tequila (infused with habanero)
  • 1 oz freshly squeezed blood orange juice
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • ½ oz orange liqueur (or agave nectar for a sweeter variation)
  • Tajín, for rimming the glass
  • Blood orange wedge, for garnish
  • (Optional: thin slice of habanero for visual heat)

🌶️ Habanero Tequila Infusion:

  1. Thinly slice one fresh habanero (remove seeds for less heat).
  2. Place in a clean jar with 1 cup Teremana tequila
  3. Let infuse for 1–2 hours, tasting periodically.
  4. You can also add to a full bottle and let steep infuse overnight.
  5. Once the desired spice is reached, strain and store the tequila.

🍹 How to Make The Blood Orange Margarita:

  1. Rim a rocks glass with lime and dip in Tajín.
  2. Combine infused tequila, blood orange juice, lime juice, and liqueur in a shaker with ice.
  3. Shake vigorously and strain into the prepared glass over fresh ice.
  4. Garnish with an orange blood slice and enjoy the burn.
