A Dockside Classic with a Sunset Story

Some things don’t belong on a menu.

They belong to a feeling.

At The Captain Stannard, you won’t find a bar. No cocktails shaken behind the desk. No late-night orders or last call.

And yet, if you stay long enough, you’ll taste one anyway.

We call it The Captain’s Drink.

It lives in the stories. In the way the light hits the porch at sunset. In the music that seems to find its way into the air when the day winds down.

And, if you ask Marcus, it tastes like a Rum Runner.

Not the bright, syrupy version passed around beach bars.

Something deeper. Slower. Built for the end of the day, not the middle of it.

Marcus talks about where it began.

It started years ago. long before the Captain Stannard, before early mornings with guests and coffee brewing in the kitchen. Back when days ended not with check-ins, but with salt on your skin and a slow walk off the dock.

Back when evenings meant stepping off a boat. There was a marina bar. Small, nothing fancy. Weathered wood, a couple of barstools, and a blender that sounded like it had seen a few too many summers. But they made one thing perfectly:

A Rum Runner. Dark, rich, just sweet enough, and always served just as the sun dipped low over the water.

Marcus still talks about those nights. The kind where time stretches out, music drifts across the harbor, and no one’s in a hurry to leave.

Worn. The kind of place you didn’t plan to visit but always ended up staying longer than expected.

A few stools. Salt in the air. A blender that worked harder than it should have.

They made one thing right.

A Rum Runner.

Dark rum. Cold glass. Just enough sweetness to carry the citrus. Served as the sun dropped low and the water turned gold.

No one rushed those evenings.

Music drifted. Conversations lingered. The dock creaked softly underfoot.

That’s the version Marcus carries with him.

And the one we pass along, quietly, to you.

Yacht Rock Pairing

Christopher Cross. Sailing.

Low volume. Let it drift.

Meri likes to say that not everything needs to be served to be shared.

This is one of those things.

You won’t order this drink from us. But you might find yourself thinking about it as the sky softens and the evening settles in.

And if you make it at home, or somewhere near the water, take your time with it.

That’s the point.
