A New England Take on a Southern Classic
From Captain Marcus
A fan of all things bourbon, Marus would not miss a chance to reimagine a classic bourbon cocktail.
The Mint Julep.
The Mint Julep wasn’t at the inn. It was during a spring trip south, where the air felt heavier, the pace slower, and the drinks colder than expected. He remembers the frost on the silver cup, the sharpness of mint, and the way the bourbon warmed everything just enough.
But back on the Connecticut shoreline, something felt missing.
“It needed a breeze,” he said.
This version keeps the soul of the classic, but lightens it just enough to feel right at the water’s edge. Fresh mint from the garden, a hint of citrus, and a finish that feels more like sunset on the dock than a day at the races.
The Captain’s Mint Julep Recipe
2 oz bourbon
1 oz mint simple syrup
Fresh mint leaves
Splash of fresh lime juice
Crushed ice
Instructions
1. Muddle mint with simple syrup.
2. Add bourbon and fill with crushed ice.
3. Add a splash of lime.
4. Stir until frost forms on the cup.
5. Garnish with mint and lime.

Captain’s Twist
A touch of lime brightens the drink and gives it that coastal lift—less heavy, more refreshing, and perfect for a late afternoon by the water.

Final Note
The South may have its julep.
But this one belongs to the shoreline.
Served cold, with a little salt air and nowhere to be.
